Advent charity work is well underway and a number of events have taken place includinga staff coffee morning and various raffles to raise funds to help the homeless in Glasgow and to support our local parishes.

As a result of the extreme adverse weather the school was closed for several days and a number of events have had to be rescheduled, including the School Show, the Open Evening and the 4 prelims.

November 2010

This month the school remembers all those family,friends and colleagues who have died, in our Remembrance Book which is displayed in the school foyer.

Focus in Learning and Teaching moves to monitoring the experience of S3 and S4 puipls..  Study support sessions are also on offer during November in preparation for the prelims in December.

The school is also beginning to prepare for our annual Open Evening on Thursday 2nd December.

 

October 2010

Feedback from our S/4 work experience was very positive. Staff visited pupils in their placements just to check on progress

During October we continue our focus on S/5 and S/6 learning and teaching.

Preparations are also underway for our Senior School Awards Ceremony on 7th October and for our annual Hint of Pink Day on October 8th.

Pupils are on holiday for a week from Friday 8th October. Monday 18th October is also a holiday for pupils as staff continue to undertake work to support curriculum for Excellence.

On Wednesday 20th We welcome parents, friends and primary head teachers to join First Year for their Welcome Mass.

 

September 2010

The highlight for September will be our preparations for the visit of Pope Benedict XVI. A party from the school will participate in Holy Mass at Bellahouston Park, while the school streams the events live to classrooms for as many staff and pupils as possible.

Also in September a number of our S4 pupils will participate in Work Experience.

Si will also experience their first big conference of the session, reflecting on 'confident individuals'. We will meet with our First Year parents for an information evening on 29th September at 6.16pm

August 2010

School resumes for the new session on Monday 16th August. Pupils should report for class at 8.50 am. New S/1 pupils should make their way to the Assembly Hall.

The end of term is rushing towards us ..and plenty still to do. This month we recognise the achievements of all our First Second and Third Year pupils at the Annual Awards Ceremonies. Activities Day for the school will take place on Monday 21st June when we all get out and about, enjoying new activities.  a number of staff are moving on this year and our thanks and best wishes go to Mrs Clancy, Mrs McArthur and Mr. Mullaney, all of whom are retiring after many years of service to Notre Dame.  Congratulations are also due to Mrs Lennon as she takes up her new post of Head Teacher at Lourdes Secondary.

May 2010

SQA Exams get into full swing this month, as does our primary transition programme.  Parents and P7 pupils will be visitng the school and senior  staff pastoral care staff will commence their visits to the primary schools to ensure a smooth transition.

The focus on learning and teaching looks at the S/1-S/2 experience this month.

S/1-S/3 are choosing from the Activities catalogue in preparation for Activities week in June.

In place of the final Pupil Council meeting focus groups of pupils in each year group will meet this month to discuss aspects of a Curriculum for Excellence and to give their views on how we can improve the learning experience.

April 2010

School resumes after the Easter break on 19th April, amidst some disruption as a result of the volcanic eruption in Iceland.  The final push for the SQA exams is taking place and S/4 pupils celebrate Mass in preparation for the coming exams.  S/6 pupils have their final citizenship conference on Friday 29th April..

Placing request applications will be confirmed at the end of the month.

March 2010

Lent is well underway and pupils and staff are making huge efforts to support SCIAF with their fundraising. Holy Mass is celebrated in school together with a range of spiritual reflection opportunities for staff and pupils. Many thanks to Fr. Jim Lawlor and the Julie Billiart Group for their efforts.

The annual St. Patrick's Day Treat reaches a major milestone this year. On 12th March we are celebrating the 30th Year of entertaining senior citizens from the community in Notre Dame High School. Our S/3 pupils are busy preparing for the big day when they will host our visitors for an afternoon of Irish dancing, community singing - and plenty of delicious food.

On Thursday 4th March the school celebrates World Book Day with a book swap in the library at 8.30 am, accompanied by hot chocolate and (healthy) muffins.  Staff have also volunteered for lunchtime story-telling sessions, reading some of their favourite chapters to a new audience.

The Pupil Council also meet this month with health and eco issues high on the agenda.

 

February 2010

Upper School prelims begin on 1st February and Second Year options continue. On 10th February all S/2 will participate in our 'I Can Do Anything 'Conference', when a range of guests come to the school and pupils have the opportunity to quiz them about the careers they have chosen.

We celebrate Cathoiic Education Week this month and members of staff and pupils will be speaking in the local parishes about the work of education in 'Shining the Light of Christ', which is the theme for this year.

There will be an extra in-service day on Friday 12th February to help staff prepare for A Curriculum for Excellence.  Pupils will therefore be on holiday on the 12th. The February mid-term means holidays for staff and pupils on Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th February. Pupils will also be on holiday on the In-service day, Wednesday 17th February.

January 2010

A new decade and a cold start to 2010. School resumed on Tuesday 5th January.

Parents will receive their copy of the HMIe inspection this month. The report can also be downloaded from the HMIE site.

S/2 embark on their Options Programme and upper school prepare for their prelims next month.The Parent Council will meet on 14th January and our annual Hint of Tartan Day and Burns Supper will take place on Friday 22nd January.

To mark Holocaust Week a number of events will take place including a visit by First Year to see the Film 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas'

 

December 2009

The annual school Open Evening was again well attended as we welcomed parents and pupils from P7 to Notre Dame

December also sees the start of our Advent charity campaign.  Pupils will be helping to raise funds for the homeless and for SCIAF during December.

The Pupil Council met in December and discussed the draft Vision, Values and aims statement for Notre Dame.

We were delighted to host the Holocaust Memorial Trust 's ANNE FRANK Exhibition from 17th Decembe.

S/4 prelims took place and the term ended with yet again an excellent talent show organised by S/6

School closes for the Christmas holidays on Tuesday 22nd December.

 

November 2009

During this important month in the church calendar we remember the 'Holy Souls', including family and friends we have loved and lost. We pray,remember them in our November lists and celebrate Mass for for the repose of their souls.

November is also the time when we prepare for our school 'Open Evening' on Thursday December 3rd at 7.00pm. All hands on deck to ensure the school is ready to welcome its visitors!

Visitors also arrive during the first week of November when we welcome HMIe for our school inspection. For more details about the work of HMIE click here.

October 2009

A number of events are taking place in October, including the local authority School Performance review and 'Hint of Pink day, raising funds for Breast Cancer charities.  The S/5-S/6 focus period looks closely at learning experiences in the upper school during this month while later in October we will hold our S/1 Successful Learners conference where we explore the talents and skills of our First Year and hear their views about  the learning experience in Notre Dame so far.  The month ends with S/6 pupils organising the Halloween party for S/1.

Lunch time clubs are again up and running where S/6 and their mentors can 'chill out' and have some fun. All are welcome.

The S/5 Higher Personal Development class are involved in the 'FLOUR BABIES' project, finding out what it is like to  look after a 'new addition' to your family in the form of a dressed up bag of flour.

September 2009

This month the school welcomes Real Radio for a morning in an event  to identify new talent.  The Music Dept have been organising auditions for pupils and snippets of song and dance are to be heard in various corners of the school from early morning.

The important process of electing our School Office Bearers also takes place this month.

We also welcome the parents of our new S/1 pupils on Wednesday 30th Septembe at 7.00pm, for an evening to seek their views on the school, to keep them informed of what has been happening to First Year during the first month of term and also to offer support where it is required.

The new school session began for pupils on Monday 17th August 2009. A number of conferences will take place in August: S/2 Aim High;S/5 Induction and S/6 Citizenship.
