They knocked on the door and said we want her - with the guns and all - we want that Jewish child. We know you have a Jewish child there. And the nuns said absolutely not. We don't have anybody. And they broke the door. And what I will never forget is that the six nuns, they had a big basket of laundry that they carried three on the side, because there was a lot of laundry for all of these priests. And they pushed me in that laundry to hide me and they put all the linen on top. That happened like in one second. And that's how I was saved."

JUNE 2008

23/6/08
The end of term is rushing towards us! Yesterday we had our celebration of learning with our S/2 Creative Curriculum groups presenting the projects they have been working on for the last 8 weeks. Films/adverts/animations, thought provoking opinions on everything from sectarianism to eco issues. what a fabulous show of talent. We were lucky to have as guest of honour the producer of TAGGART - Graeme Gordon, to share our celebration with.
Today's lunchtime entertainment was titled 'Summer Flames' and staff and pupils got up onto the stage to strut their stuff all in aid of good causes. Only three days now until we 'free' pupils and staff for the summer!

20/6/08
We ended this week in a flurry of activity - as usual for June!. Our S/3 returned from their trip to Liverpool for the HOPE Conference with other ND schools and we wished good luck to our senior team , representing Scotland, who set off this weekend to participate in the Global Enterprise Challenge in Mainz, Germany. Of course the highlight of the week was the lower school award ceremonies and we were delighted that 2 of our guests of honour were Sister Mary McClure and Sister Dorothy Ross of the Notre Dame community. As well as the gilded certificates, the book tokens, lapel badges and trophies, our guest speakers offered words of wisom and advice to the pupils. One little anecdote stood out. Sister Mary McClure recollected that this time last year she was presenting prizes to a Notre Dame school in Zimbabwe. Each award winner received a bag of rice which would feed their family for a week and a pen. Certainly food for thought as we enter the last week of term.
