Our Awards Scheme for S1-S/3 pupils has proved very successful. At Notre Dame High School we believe that success should be rewarded and that achievements should be celebrated, - not just success for being ‘academic’ but all kinds of success. Many pupils have already had some success in different areas, for example musical, artistic, excellent attendance, helping others and many other kinds of achievements. It is important that these achievements are valued and recognised.
The first part of the scheme involves teachers recording pupils’ success in certain areas at different points in the year. The kind of award will depend on how each pupil does, not just in one area but overall in all the areas during the full year. The areas that have been chosen are those that we know can make a real difference to success in school.
They are: PERFORMANCE, EFFORT, ATTENDANCE and BEHAVIOUR
Pupils have to show that they have tried their very best in all the four areas. Each subject teacher will be asked to record progress in the four areas before Christmas and also later in the year. If she can keep up the standard in the four areas your daughter will be presented with a gold, silver or bronze award at the end of the year at an awards ceremony.
The second part of the Awards Scheme is the PRAISE CARD. These are presented each month at assembly following nominations from teachers, Parents/Carers and other pupils.
The praise card is presented for one of the following reasons:
- Production of a piece of written or oral work or some other work which reflects outstanding effort.
- Sustained or improved performance in subject assessment, in behaviour or in attendance.
- Support for the family, community or for another pupil in school.
