Home Economics

Home economics is a discreet subject within the environment and society area of study. The Department of Education produce a programme of study for key stage 3, the central focus of which, is the consideration of home and family in relation to the development of the individual and society. It is designed to anable pupils to acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills to make informed decisions which may improve the quality of life for themselves and others.

There are three essential and inter-related strands of experience within home economics. These strands define the content which should be covered and include:

  • Family Life
  • Diet and Health
  • Choice and management of resources
