Aims of the Mathematics Department
To provide a full range of courses from S1 to S6 to meet the needs of all the pupils.
· To enable all individuals to achieve their highest mathematical potential.
· To make the best use of resources i.e. accommodation, finance, staff, development time, Support for Learning, Guidance Team.
· To achieve partnership with pupils, parents and colleagues which will foster the personal and social development of pupils and promote a continuing desire to learn throughout life.
The study of mathematics will help our pupils to:
Appreciate order and structure in a variety of situations.
· Appreciate the role and importance of mathematics in the world around them.
· Tackle problems in a logical fashion.
· Develop skills in manipulating, comprehending and communicating quantifiable information.
· Develop resourcefulness in adapting these skills to resolve different situations.
· Reinforce concepts such as number, time, weight, shape, etc.
· Learn the effective use of technology to reinforce skills and knowledge.
· Consolidate numeracy skills by providing frequent opportunities to reinforce throughout the syllabus.
· Reinforce problem solving skills through taking part in competitions both internal and external.
